Retained Earnings

Retained earnings are the portion of a company's net income that are not paid out as dividends but instead are retained in the company for reinvestment or other corporate purposes. Retained earnings can be used for activities such as paying off debt, purchasing new assets, expanding operations or funding research and development. Retained earnings are reported on a company's balance sheet under shareholder's equity, and can be an important indicator of a company's financial health and strategy.
